2001 Awards Expo and Dinner

For those of you who have not yet been to an Awards Dinner
here is the schedule of the event:

Expo at 1:00 - dinner 6:30
This includes vendors with new products on display, racing videos (bring your favorite on VHS), cash bar and appetizers. Basically a five or so hour bench racing session. 

Dinner and Awards at 6:30
Buffet Dinner followed by: Worker Recognition, John Bettencourt Sportsman of the Year Award, Vanson Rookie of the Year Award, Karen Hornbecker Safety Award, Championship Trophy Presentation and a Raffle followed by music and dancing.

You will receive info the event which will include a reservation form and info on rooms at the hotel in a mailing which should go out the first week of November. If you do not receive this info before12/15/99 please email your address to steve@lrrsracing .com and I will get it out to you. We try, but you may still have been left off of someone's list. (we mail to racers lists present and past and to all the workers lists which are submitted to us).

Tickets $38 Adult and Children $14
(we are trying to keep the prices as low as possible)
(Checks will not be cashed until after January 1, 2002 - Enjoy the Holidays)
"Table For Ten" can be reserved for $360
(you must organized your table and send in the check in full)
Rooms at the Sheraton Stamford Hotel in CT are $82 
You must call the hotel for your reservation at (203) 359-1300 and tell them you are with LRRS GpPro Roadracers group (regular price is $156 to $211) and the hotel will hold a block of 95 rooms for us until 30 days prior to the event)
Also: if you arrive before 3:00 on Saturday (the hotels normal check in time) they will accommodate you as soon as the rooms are available from the previous nights guests and they have extended our check out time till noon on Sunday (buffet breakfast is available in the central restaurant). Bring your bathing suit and work out gear - there is and indoor pool, Health club.

Times have been very tough for all of us here in the USA since 9/11/01 and will continue for some time. We have all been touched in some way by these events but being as strong as we Americans are, we will get through it. It will not be easy for some of us and we are all feeling the effects whether if be as simple as the new inconveniences due to security issues in our country to as personal as loss of jobs, businesses, or friends and family members. I wish you all well and hope to see you at our Awards Dinner and during our next race season. As trivial as our hobby of racing motorcycles may seem, we all need the diversion and comradely it brings.

Due to the loss of business, since Sept., the Sheraton in Waterbury has informed us that they will be closing Dec. 15th. We have been holding our dinner there for 15 years. The Waterbury area has been demographically in the center of our membership and the hotel has been doing a great job for us. We have a last minute back up plan and are moving the dinner to the Stamford, CT area Sheraton for this year and we will see how it works out for everyone.

The details have been mailed during the first week of November and are posted here on this site. The cost of $38 for attending is $3 more than it cost to attend and AAMRR dinner 20 years ago. (AAMRR was the original racing organization here in the Northeast - thru 1985). Sure, you could go out to dinner for less. For instance, the bar across the hall at the hotel. Have a beer and a burger for $20, then show up and participate in the awards portion of the night. The problem is that the $38 that everyone else paid, helps to cover the cost of the entire day. Everything from the mini trade show, appetizers, hall rentals, dinner, taxes, gratuities, and a portion of the trophies. So please help the cause, spend the extra $18 and have dinner with your friends if you plan to attend the awards. Remember that since the loss of AAMRR a group of racers, friends and family took it upon themselves to be sure that the Awards Dinner happens and at a much greater cost to themselves than a mere $38.
